The Power of Kindness

In view of the recent raid on the DUMC and how kindness can be misconstrued as something sinister or evil, allow me to share this with those concerned what a little kindness can do.
One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry and so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?"

"You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never
to accept pay for a kindness." He said, "Then I thank you from my heart."
As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his
faith in God and man was strengthened also. He had been ready to give up
and quit.

Years later, that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were
baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to
study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly* was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name
of the town she came from, he went down the hall of the hospital to her room.
Dressed in his doctor's gown, he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.
He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life.
From that day, he gave special attention to the case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested from the business
office to pass the final billing to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote
something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it,
for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked,
and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words:
"PAID IN FULL WITH ONE GLASS OF MILK..."
(Signed)
Dr. Howard Kelly

  4. A heartwarming and timely reminder. Our moronic 'leaders' and some of our populace fail to realize that it is the collective efforts (including sacrifices) of our forefathers that gave growth to this nation, our beloved home. 54 years later, following independence; instead of progressing, we are regressing. Time to stop the rot. For the sake of our nation as well as for the future generation.......BERSATUPADU! United we stand, divided we fall.

  10. Too bad your one of a kind teacher's tale is about Christians about Christians.

Muslims here will never trust nor believe you, no matter whether your tale is true or false. In all probability you may be jihad for false teachings as in prowhatTFysing Muslims, so do be careful what you say or write or meet

    Welcome to the real world

  11. To Anonymous [August 12, 8.49 pm]: The story is not "fake". In fact, Dr. Howard Kelly was a distinguished physician who, in 1895, founded the Johns Hopkins Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Johns Hopkins University. Yes, I know it is very hard for us to believe that such act can happen especially living in a world of intolerance, but then again, Mother Teresa was real too.

  13. To Turby, thank you for sharing the link.

To Anonymous [August 12, 11.23 pm] The case posted has nothing to do with Christianity, and I don't blame you for thinking so since is a white man story. It is a human story.

To all you other guys who posted positive comments, yes, we certainly need that dose of human kindness to help us through our daily trials.

  14. Whatever happened at DUMC invoving the JAIS and the police is not real. It's a drama staged by the 'gerombolan's'to break PAS and Malays that support PAS. They wanted to put PAS in a corner so that in the event when PAS makes the wrong move the MALAYS /Muslims will leave PAS in droves to support UMNO. But Allah has it's ways.Lets just wait and see. Finally, yesterday, PAS made stand and asked JAIS to charge the wrongdoers. Now, JAIS and that Hassan guy man who supports 'gerombolan's' are back to the drawing table, probbaly trying to scheme something else. Allah is great. This is the last year of 'gerombolan's' in power. Insyallah/God willing.

  15. Thank you Amin for your comments. In fact the Catholic Church has come out in support of PAS stand to bring to books those responsible for proselytizing if it is proven that the DUMC did commit such an offence. That is the way to go. Quite frankly, I feel, like in a game of chess, Najib [King] and Rosmah [Queen] have been check-mated with the fall of the Bishop [Hasan Ali]. JAIS were merely the pawns in the game. Bless you, Amin.

  17. Does it really matter whether the story is true or fake? Is it not inspiring? Dont we get such a nice feeling upon reading it? Even if its not true, cant we at least emulate the kind gesture by the lady?

  18. Example of The Power of Kindness i.a.w Quran.
Story o Moses as he flee from Egypt after punching and killing an Egyptian.
    http://www.masjidtucson.org/quran/noframes/ch28.html#23

[28:22] As he traveled towards Midyan, he said, "May my Lord guide me in the right path."
[28:23] When he reached Midyan's water, he found a crowd of people watering, and noticed two women waiting on the side. He said, "What is it that you need?" They said, "We are not able to water, until the crowd disperses, and our father is an old man."
[28:24] He watered for them, then turned to the shade, saying, "My Lord, whatever provision You send to me, I am in dire need for it."
[28:25] Soon, one of the two women approached him, shyly, and said, "My father invites you to pay you for watering for us." When he met him, and told him his story, he said, "Have no fear. You have been saved from the oppressive people."
    Moses Marries
[28:26] One of the two women said, "O my father, hire him. He is the best one to hire, for he is strong and honest."
[28:27] He said, "I wish to offer one of my two daughters for you to marry, in return for working for me for eight pilgrimages; if you make them ten, it will be voluntary on your part. I do not wish to make this matter too difficult for you. You will find me, GOD willing, righteous."
[28:28] He said, "It is an agreement between me and you. Whichever period I fulfill, you will not be averse to either one. GOD is the guarantor of what we said."

  19. Thanks, Ipoh, for sharing an extract from the Quran about kindness. It sure helps to improve the perception of Islam as a positive religion and not a negative one. If you have more, do share. Thanks and God bless.
