When I read what happened at the recent MCA general assembly, I just shook my head in disbelief. To me, it was more like a PAS and DAP bashing gathering where it was a free for all for those in attendance, to the extent that elders like Tok Guru Nik Aziz, the MB of Kelantan and Lim Kit Siang were ridiculed no end. In politics, one can vehemently disagree with one another on policy matters, but was it necessary to embark on a character assassination spree resulting in one appearing 'childish' for the whole world to see? Tok Guru is a revered Muslim religious leader and to call him a 'devil' is totally uncalled for. As for Lim Kit Siang, he had just undergone an eye surgery and is recovering. As a precautionary measure, he had no choice but to wear the dark sun glasses. But to say he was wearing the sun glasses because he was ashamed to face the Chinese community is a whole load of rubbish. Next, is the continuous attack on PAS' hudud laws at the gathering. I wonder how the Buddhist and Christian MCA members feel if PAS was to demonise their religions at their Muktamar assemblies. If you don't respect others, you honestly cannot expect others to respect you, isn't it? Respect breeds respect and that is what we have been teaching our children, but as leaders of a political party, you fellas are a bunch of disgrace.
I guess MCA is finally realising that not many of the members would be attending the general assembly this year [heard that only 75% turned up]. Was it the reason why they have to resort to bringing in the seven SYTs [sweet young things] to boost attendance? I thought those who attend such meetings must be elected divisional leaders. At one glance you know these girls are no elected representatives by a long shot. So, what gives, MCA? A political party AGM is a serious gathering where policies of the party and nation are shaped. Therefore, when one attends such meeting, one is expected to voice his/her aspirations on nation-building. Even if the girls were invited as observers, what are their contributions at the meeting? Are they there just to sit and look pretty, and let the male party members gawk at them? Women NGOs have better start slamming MCA for exploiting the fairer sex for their own gains. Bring on the likes of Teresa Kok, Teo Nie Ching, Janice Lee or Hannah Yeo and it would have meant something. All this kind of window dressings are not going to help MCA in anyway.
MCA's window dressing
Chua Soi Lek went further by telling the delegates of the 'New Deal' which to me was nothing new as it has been bantered around year in, year out at every assembly with nothing to show once everybody had gone home. Maybe it is one way for CSL to show that there was still relevance for MCA to be around.
If one was to look at the' items under 'Cost of Living', don't you think this is a plagiarized version from Lim Guan Eng in Penang and Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in Selangor? Now you tell me whether UMNO would agree to the points raised. So, as we can see, it is just another 'syiok sendiri' announcement which ultimately will end up a 'zilch'.
However, here is one interesting posting by a person named 'Yue' who perhaps explained it best the current mood of the Chinese community insofar as MCA is concerned. Basically, it is telling MCA, if you see a lake or a kite, you will know what to do.
@#@, MCA you are a huge party but in your general assembly, the time was used to attack Islamic idealism, but at the same time you quietly bow to Umno's narrow racist mind, what kind of a pathetic party is this? A pathetic party that cannot be saved!
When Umno attacked, saying Chinese are "immigrants", telling us to go back to Tongsan, it was PAS who came forward to defend us!
