Meet Yap Pian Hon, one of those MCA guys behind it all

Meet Yap Pian Hon, the first of the many frogs (from DAP) to hop over to MCA in the seventies. The 68-year-old served six terms as the state assemblyman for Serdang and six terms as MP after Serdang became a parliamentary constituency. He was MCA vice-president for three terms – from 1990 to 1999 – and also a former MCA Youth leader. However, Yap was dropped in the 2008 polls. Today he is the Selangor BN Information Chief. This is what he did that emboldened people like JAIS to act on the Christians in the state.

He was the one who voted for the amendment of the Selangor Islamic Enactment that allows a minor to be converted to Islam without parental consent.When asked why he supported the enactment, his excuse was he did not read the amended enactment and that he was half asleep when he put up his hand to vote. Now this is not the only enactment involving Islamic matters. There were many others as well, and no thanks to this man and the others in the MCA who were then the ADUN in the BN controlled state assembly. If this is not being irresponsible, I don't know what is.
