That moment has arrived ....

Two months ago, was the 20th anniversary when I first took the plunge to leave the security of the bank to venture into my own business that is related to the human development industry. I still could remember the Saturday before I left, my CEO had a long meeting with me, coaxing me to stay on. I told him I wish I could but I must make the necessary move as I have already arrived at the cross road of my life and if I didn't make a move then, I would never move at all.

Twenty years on, the painful decision that I dread most has finally arrived a month ago, i.e. whether to finally hang up my laser pointer for good as I felt I have done all I could partaking in the industry growth more so, seeing to the skill improvement of my charges.

During this time, I met many interesting people, from all walks of life and stations. But most of all, I enjoyed fully the many intellectual discourses that we had during and after each training session.  What is even amazing is that some of the participants who attended my sessions many years ago, are still in touch with me today via FaceBook and WhatsApp.

I wonder how many of you are now at that cross road of your life having to make that choice.

Something from the past

It is always around this time of the year that my Christmas preparations get underway, and it begins with the spring cleaning of my office as I operate from the home.  While going through some of the items in the boxes, I was so delighted to have found my senior scout epaulette, an old photo of me and my troop mates and a lapel which I used to wear in 1965 during my attachment with the 36th KL of the Cochrane Road Secondary School.  Forty nine years later, what a sight to behold, and to think they have been lost due to my moving my domicile six times since that year.

How to Memorize China's Major Dynasties?

China has been in existence for more than 5,000 years and during this time, dynasties have come and gone. But how many of us do remember the names of the dynasties?  Other than the Ming Dynasty [the time of Admiral Cheng Ho], the rest are blur to me.  So, if you plan to do a course on the history of China, there is an easier way to remember the major dynasties which played prominent roles in shaping the giant nation it is today.

Enjoy!

Najib visiting Gaza

So Najib has 'cabut' overseas, as usual, when trouble is brewing at home, this time to Gaza. Now many of us have the impression that Gaza is a waste land having been bombed out by the Israelis and the people are living in squalid quarters, surviving only on the bare necessities. Well, what do you know .... THIS IS GAZA!

Phew! What a relief

My birthday falls on December 23 and when I read the following news report by AFP, I couldn't help but heaved a sigh of relief, .... heh heh heh.   The world is coming to an end?  Nah, not in another 1 million years and we would have been reincarnated a few thousand times to walk on this planet earth over and over again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Relax doomsayers, the Maya people did not really mark their calendar for the end of the world on December 21, 2012.
As tourists book hotel rooms in Mexico's Maya Riviera and Guatemalan resorts ahead of next month's fateful date, experts are busy debunking the doomsday myth.

The apocalyptic prophecy that has inspired authors and filmmakers never appears in the tall T-shaped stone calendar that was carved by the Maya around the year 669 in southeastern Mexico.

In reality, the stone recounts the life and battles of a ruler from that era, experts say. Plus, the last date on the calendar is actually December 23, 2012, not the 21st, and it merely marks the end of a cycle.

So no need to build giant arks, because the terrible floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions depicted in the Hollywood blockbuster "2012" were not prophesied by the Mayas.

"The Mayas had a cyclical idea of time. They were not preoccupied with the end of the world," Mexican archeologist Jose Romero told AFP.

The stone, known as Monument 6, was located in El Tortuguero, an archeological site that was discovered in 1915.

Broken in six pieces, the different fragments are exhibited in US and Mexican museums, including Tabasco's Carlos Pellicer Camara Anthropology Museum and New York's Metropolitan Museum.

The first study on the stone was published by a German researcher in 1978. Since then, various archeologists have examined its significance and agree that it refers to the December 23 date.

"The last inscription refers to December 23, 2012, but the central theme of Monument 6 is not the date, it's not the prophecies or the end of the world. It's the story of (then-ruler) Bahlam Ajaw," Romero said.

The final date represents the end of a cycle in the Mayan long count calendar that began in the year 3114 before Christ. It is the completion of 13 baak t'uunes, a unit of time equivalent to 144,000 days.

"It is not the end of the Mayan long count calendar, which is endless. It's the beginning of a new cycle, that's all," said Mexican historian Erick Velasquez.

Though the Maya made prophecies, they looked at events in the near future and were related to day-to-day concerns like rain, droughts, or harvests.

The belief that the calendar foresees the end of the world comes from Judeo-Christian interpretations, the experts said.

Velasquez warned against giving too much weight to Monument 6, noting that it is just one of more than 5,000 stones from the Mayan culture that have been studied.

The Earth still has a few years left, even in eyes of the ancient Maya: Some stones refer to the year 7000.

Robin Gibb in coma

THE Bee Gees' Robin Gibb is lying in a coma as doctors fear he only has days to live, it has been reported.
The Bee Gees star's family were keeping a bedside vigil, praying for the 62-year-old's survival.
He appeared to have made a recovery from liver and colon cancer this year, but doctors believe a second tumor may be present, reported Britain's The Sun.
He has also developed pneumonia.
His wife Dwina, brother Barry, 65, daughter Melissa, 37, and sons Spencer, 39, and Robin-John, 29, were at his bedside at a private hospital in Chelsea, West London.
A family friend told the newspaper: "Our prayers are with Robin. he has kept so positive and always believed he could beat this. Sadly, it looks like he has developed pneumonia, which is very bad in his situation.
"If there is anyone you would put money on pulling through such a dire situation, it would be Robin because he is a fighter. But this is a battle he will struggle to win."
Robin revealed his battle with cancer in October 2010.
He had emergency surgery to treat a blocked bowel, before a further operation to treat a twisted bowel. Colon cancer was then discovered and it had spread to his liver.
His twin brother Maurice died of complications resulting from a twisted intestine in 2003, aged 53.
Barry Gibb earlier this week jetted into the UK from Tennessee in the US to join other members of the family.
At first Robin's illness was thought to have been due to the hereditary intestinal condition which led to the death of his twin brother.
In an interview earlier this month, Gibb pondered whether his illness is "karma" for the fame and fortune he has enjoyed.
"I sometimes wonder if all the tragedies my family has suffered, like Andy and Maurice dying so young and everything that’s happened to me recently, is a kind of karmic price we are paying for all the fame and fortune we’ve had.
"But we’ve worked hard for everything we’ve achieved."
Born in the Isle of Man to English parents, Gibb and his brothers lived their first few years in Manchester then moved in the late 1950s to Redcliffe, north-east of Brisbane, where they began their musical careers.
After achieving their first chart success in Australia with Spicks and Specks, they returned to Britain in January 1967 where producer Robert Stigwood began promoting them to a worldwide audience.

Al Queda and the number '11'. A co-incidence?

Now this might shake you up a little, but read on...................

THE SECRET BEHIND THE NUMBER 11
Read it all!

1) New York City has 11 letters
2) Afghanistan has
11 letters.
3) Ramsin Yuseb has
11 letters . (The terrorist who threatened to destroy the Twin Towers in 1993)
4) George W Bush has
11 letters.
This could be a mere coincidence, but this gets more interesting:

1) New York is the 11th state.
2) The first plane crashing against the Twin Towers was flight number 11.
3) Flight 11 was carrying 92 passengers. 9 + 2 = 114) Flight 77 which also hit Twin Towers , was carrying 65
passengers. Therefore, 6+5 = 115) The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known. 9 + 1+ 1 =116) The date is equal to the US emergency services telephone number 911.

9 + 1 + 1 = 11
Sheer coincidence..?!  Read on and make up your own mind:
1) The total number of victims inside all the hi-jacked planes was 254.

2 + 5 + 4 = 11.
2) September
11 is day number 254 of the calendar year.

Again 2 + 5 + 4 = 11..

3) The Madrid
 bombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 11.
4) The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident.

Now this is where things get totally eerie:

The most recognized symbol for the US , after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book:
'For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced ; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace.'
That verse i number 9.11 of the Quran.
Unconvinced about all of this Still ?!
Try this and see how you feel afterwards, it made my hair stand on end:
Open Microsoft Word and do the following:

1. Type in capitals Q33 NY. This is the flight number of the first plane to hit one of the Twin Towers ..
2. Highlight the Q33 NY.
3. Change the font size to 48.
4. Change the actual font to the WINGDINGS
 1

What do you think now?!!

?

?

?

This is the result :

Q33NY

A terrible situation and an amazing solution - thinking out of the box

The phone rings. The lady of the house answers, "Yes?"

"Mrs. Ward, please."

"Speaking"

"Mrs. Ward, this is Doctor Jones at the Medical Testing Laboratory. When your Doctor sent your husband's samples to the lab, the samples from another Mr. Ward were sent as well and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's. Frankly, it is either bad or terrible."

"What do you mean?" Mrs. Ward asks.

"Well, one Mr. Ward has tested positive for Alzheimer's disease (related to memory) and the other for AIDS. We can't tell which your husband's is."

"That's terrible! Can we do the test over?" questions Mrs. Ward.

"Normally, yes. But Medicare won't pay for these expensive tests more than once."

"Well, what am I supposed to do now?"

"The people at Medicare recommend that you drop your husband off in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him."

Classroom Socialism

When the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Is this man truly a genius? Read the following and you know what, it is true...it DID happen!

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Robin Gibbs has liver cancer

Bee Gees star Robin Gibb is battling liver cancer, according to reports this weekend.

The 61-year-old was diagnosed several months ago it has been claimed.

He was rushed to hospital this week by ambulance this week after a 999 call was made from his £8million mansion but was allowed home after five hours, it has been reported.

Last month the star withdrew from recording a special Remembrance Sunday edition of the BBC programme Songs of Praise.

He later revealed in a statement that he was being treated for inflammation of the colon.

The Bee Gees, who also included brother Barry, 64, notched up decades of chart hits including 1970s disco tracks Night Fever and Stayin' Alive.

Robin and Dwina have one son, Robin-John, 26, who lives at the family home. The star has two other children, Spencer, 38, and Melissa, 36, by first wife Molly Hullis.

Ahhh, some contradictions in life

Why do supermarkets make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front?

Why do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

Why do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Why do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in our driveways and put our useless junk in the garage.

EVER WONDER ...

Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?

Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavoring, and dish washing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your turn to spread the stupidity and send this to someone you want to bring a smile to (maybe even a chuckle)...in other words, send it to everyone. We all need to smile every once in a while.

Ever wonder why Hawaii (a state on its own) have inter-state highways?

Ever wonder why "phonetics" is not spelt the way it is pronounced?
